Nigerian rapper and singer Ice Prince has opened up about his six-day experience at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre in Lagos, an ordeal he described as “horrible” and one he wouldn’t wish on his worst enemy.

In a recent interview, Ice Prince reflected on his time in prison following his remand in September 2022 over allegations of assaulting a police officer during a stop-and-search operation.

Addressing the incident, the rapper explained that the situation stemmed from a misunderstanding, claiming he had been joking with the officer when he drove off, which led to his arrest.

Speaking about his experience, Ice Prince noted that he received no preferential treatment during his time in prison despite his celebrity status.

He described the prison environment as a harsh and isolating “different world,” vastly more challenging than a police cell. Taking a jab at public figures who boast about surviving police custody, he emphasized the incomparable realities of incarceration.

“Whatever story you were told is not what happened. The case is over now, so I can talk about it. I spent six days in jail. I didn’t get preferential treatment. It’s a prison, so there was no preferential treatment. I’m not talking about a police cell,” he said.

Ice Prince urged caution, warning that even small mistakes could land people in prison, where many innocent individuals endure harsh conditions.

Despite the hardships, he managed to form bonds with fellow inmates, describing prison as “a different institution of higher learning.”

“I have seen a lot of celebrities and public figures who went to police cells come out to brag as if they went through some sh*t. If you’ve never been to prison, you ain’t seen it yet. I can’t explain it. It’s a different world. I don’t pray for my worst enemy to experience it,” he added.

Although deeply affected by the experience, Ice Prince used the opportunity to shed light on the realities of incarceration, urging his audience to tread carefully and avoid situations that could lead to such consequences.

“If you’ve never been to prison, you ain’t seen shiii yet. It wasn’t a good experience”
