Usher Reveals The Key To His Enduring Relevance And Success: “It’s About Keeping The Integrity”
American superstar Usher opened up about the key to his enduring relevance and success, attributing it to maintaining integrity throughout his career. Despite a career spanning over three decades, the R&B legend remains as relevant as ever, if not more so. While many of his peers are slowing down, Usher has released a new album, “COMING HOME,” and is gearing up for another global tour.
In an interview for ESSENCE’s “Sexiest Man of the Moment” issue, Usher discussed the factors contributing to his sustained success. He emphasized the importance of constantly pushing boundaries, trying new things, and staying inspired by youth and energy. This commitment to innovation and creativity has allowed him to remain youthful and relevant in the industry.
Usher’s recent album, “COMING HOME,” features collaborations with artists such as Latto on “A-Town Girl,” Summer Walker and 21 Savage on “Good Good,” and H.E.R. on “Risk It All,” among others. Additionally, he has collaborated with artists like City Girls and Muni Long in recent years, further solidifying his versatility and ability to adapt to evolving musical trends.

“Also, it’s about keeping the integrity by keeping it live, keeping that mic on, keeping that band live, and doing that work,” he added. “I’m hoping that I can be a staple — in the same way Prince was for me — for the young people who are coming up after me. The same way that Michael Jackson, and Bobby Brown, and New Edition, and all those incredible performers of the past were for me — I’m hoping that I can be the same for them.”
Usher’s “USHER: PAST PRESENT FUTURE Tour” is set to kick off on August 14 in Atlanta, with subsequent stops planned for Philadelphia, Boston, Austin, Charlotte, and Detroit. The tour’s U.K. and European leg is scheduled for April 2025.
This upcoming tour follows Usher’s successful Las Vegas residency in 2023, which featured guest appearances from notable artists like Keke Palmer, Saweetie, Doja Cat, and Victoria Monét, among others.
