Headies Awards founder reveals why the 2024 edition will be held in Nigeria
Following two straight editions hosted in Atlanta, Georgia, the Headies Awards and its organizers announced the return of the renowned award event to Nigeria.
Following this momentous announcement, Mr. Ayo Animashaun, the Executive Producer of the Headies, shared insights into the decision to bring the event back to Nigeria. Speaking with Arise News, he cited the compelling requests from Nigerians as the driving force behind this bold move.
He emphasized the importance of heeding the desires of the people when serving them, stating, “I realized When you are doing something for the people and it’s a sacrifice and not for yourself, you have to listen to the people. They said they wanted the awards back home.”
Animashaun also revealed that taking the awards to Atlanta, Georgia, was a strategic move that prevented the demise of the ceremony. “If we hadn’t taken the awards out of Nigeria, it would have died,” he explained, shedding light on the rationale behind holding the 15th and 16th editions in the United States.
In the interview, Ayo Animashaun emphasized the substantial backing received from the US Embassy in Nigeria over the past two years. This support encompassed hosting parties and assisting with visa facilitation for Nigerians to partake in the event. Animashaun highlighted the pivotal role played by the American Embassy in steering the decision to relocate the show outside Nigeria.
With the Headies gearing up for its 17th edition back in Nigeria, Animashaun made an appeal to the Nigerian government for support for the award show. Despite the lack of an official date for the ceremony, preparations are underway for its triumphant return to Nigerian soil.
