Afrobeats superstar Davido has reflected on the political journey of his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, following his latest victory in the Osun State governorship election.

The singer spoke about Adeleke’s rise during a livestream, recalling how the political journey began with the late Isiaka Adeleke, who was initially expected to become governor of Osun State before his death under unclear circumstances.
Following Isiaka’s passing, the family turned to Ademola Adeleke as a replacement candidate, setting the stage for his eventual entry into Osun State politics.
Reflecting on his uncle’s political record, Davido described him as a consistent winner and noted that he had maintained an impressive record throughout his electoral career.
“He has never lost an election From the first election he ever did, he never lost”.
Adeleke first contested the Osun governorship election in 2018 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Although he initially emerged ahead, the Independent National Electoral Commission declared the election inconclusive, leading to a rerun.
The September 27, 2018 rerun saw APC candidate Gboyega Oyetola declared the winner, bringing Adeleke’s first governorship bid to an end.
Four years later, Adeleke returned for another attempt. In the July 16, 2022 election, he defeated the incumbent Oyetola after securing 403,371 votes and winning 17 of the state’s local government areas.
Oyetola subsequently challenged the result, but Adeleke’s victory was upheld by both the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.
He was eventually sworn in as Osun State’s sixth democratically elected governor on November 27, 2022, at the Osogbo Township Stadium.
Adeleke has now secured another term after contesting under the Accord Party in the August 16, 2026 election. According to INEC, he polled 511,067 votes to defeat the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who recorded 444,815 votes.
The latest result adds another chapter to Adeleke’s political story, one Davido believes has been defined by persistence and an ability to bounce back from electoral setbacks.
