My father told me no matter what happened at the Grammys I’m still a legend – Davido
At the 66th Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles on February 5, 2024, Nigerian superstar Davido made his debut appearance.
Before the ceremony, Davido was interviewed by Rolling Stone, where the megastar reflected on his journey and the unwavering support of his friends and family.
When questioned about whether he ever envisioned himself attending the Grammys when he first started as a young artist in Nigeria, Davido revealed that the thought never crossed his mind.
“I just wanted to hear my song on the radio. For it to transcend into these, it can only be God. But just being nominated and recognized alone makes me proud of myself,” Davido says.
Leading up to the awards, Davido enjoys a vast fanbase in Nigeria, with even his father counted among his biggest supporters. Davido revealed that his father reassured him, emphasizing that regardless of the outcome, he remains a legend in his eyes.
Reflecting on the rapid global success of Afrobeats, Davido expressed his confidence in the genre’s potential. He shared his belief that Afrobeats would inevitably gain prominence if given the chance to be heard on a larger scale.
“I always had faith that Afrobeats would make waves,” Davido remarked. “Now, with opportunities for broader exposure, I’m delighted to see everything falling into place.”
Despite not securing any wins in his three nominations at his inaugural appearance at the 66th Grammy Awards, Davido remains resilient and optimistic. He maintains his cheerful demeanor and reaffirms his commitment to continue delivering exceptional music, as he has done consistently for over a decade.
I love each and everyone of you !! We Dey game !! We will continue to deliver …
