The German Football Association (FA) has officially announced the termination of Hansi Flick’s contract as the national team’s head coach.

This decision comes in the wake of a humiliating defeat against Japan in a friendly match.

Bernd Neuendorf, the head of the German FA, provided an explanation in his statement, citing the team’s poor performance in recent games as the primary reason for Flick’s dismissal. This marks a historic moment in the association’s history, as it is the first time a contract of a German coach has been terminated.

“The bodies of the DFB shared the same view that the national team now needs a new impulse. With next year’s Euro in sight we need enthusiastic mood and confidence.”

Hansi Flick, who is 58 years old, took on the role of head coach for the German national team in May 2021, leaving his position at Bayern Munich to replace Joachim Löw. At the time of his appointment, Flick had signed a three-year contract that was intended to keep him in charge until the conclusion of Euro 2024. However, after securing only 12 wins in 25 matches, he was unable to see out his contract.

Germany’s recent performance has been disappointing, with the team losing four out of their six matches since their early exit from the World Cup in December. The most recent setback was a 4-1 defeat against Japan.
