Stonebwoy speaks about Davido’s claims referring to Burna Boy’s A New Cat.
Popular dancehall musician from Ghana, Stonebwoy, has commented on Davido’s controversial interview in which he described Burna Boy as a “new cat.”
Stonebwoy, a close friend of Nigerian music sensation Davido, said in an interview with GoldMyne TV that, contrary to what Davido said, Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy is not a “new cat.”
Last week, Davido turned social media on its head when he labelled his colleague Burna Boy a “new cat” in the industry, putting him in the same category as Rema, Fireboy DML, Mayorkun, and Asake.
The music executive made the statement during an interview that’s trending, saying; “Everybody knows that I was one of the first, Wizkid and I were the first young artistes to blow up and it feels good seeing new cats like Burna Boy, Rema, Fireboy, Mayorkun.
You know a lot of new cats coming, killing it…Asake who was on my album. So, yes, I think the future of Afrobeat is in good hands.”
Stonebwoy, on the other hand, disagrees with Davido on the status of Burna Boy, claiming that given his extensive history in the field, Burna Boy cannot be regarded as a “new cat” (new artist).
Burna Boy cannot be regarded as a new artist, he continued, considering his long history in the field. He claimed to have five years of industry experience while referring to artists like Ruger as “new cats” and leaving Rema out.
He said, “Burna Boy is not a new cat to me because Burna has been there for more than a decade.
“If Davido said that, I honestly do not believe that he means that outrightly. New cats would be Rema, Ruger them. So, I don’t believe Davido meant that but also if you ask me, I think Wizkid and Davido had have a fair share of international appeal earlier than Burna.”
