Davido describes Burna Boy, others as ‘new cat’, hails career success of Wizkid.
Nigerian sensational afrobeat superstar David Adedeji Adeleke OON, who is professionally known as Davido, has claimed that he and Wizkid were the first young musicians to make it in the Nigerian music industry and has characterized Burna Boy as a new cat.
In an interview, the singer expressed confidence in the future of Afrobeat.
The legendary Afrobeat singer discusses how young people like Wizkid and himself were among the first to succeed in the entertainment industry, as opposed to more recent arrivals like Burna Boy and others.
In a recent interview, O.B.O praised the spread and success of Afrobeats while referring to Burna Boy and other well-known musicians as “new cats.”
According to Davido, he and Wizkid were among the first successful pioneers in the entertainment industry before the birth of the ‘new cats.’
He also acknowledged Mayorkun and Asake, on whose performance he reflected in his latest album, ‘Timeless,’ which has received a number of certifications due to millions of streams.
“Everybody knows that I was one of the first, me and Wizkid to blow up. It feels good also seeing that the news cats coming up; like Burna Boy, Rema, Fireboy, Rema, Asake, and Mayorkun,” he said.
