Burna Boy bemoans racial discrimination abroad, asks blacks to unite
Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu, has responded to the criticism he received over a recent remark he made regarding the ancestry of black Americans.
The African megastar, who recently performed at the NBA All-Star Halftime Show in Utah and has been confirmed as the headlining act for the upcoming UEFA Champions League final on June 10, 2023 in Istanbul, irked some African Americans with a recent remark about how important it is for them to return home from the diaspora.
In the aforementioned interview, Burna Boy was questioned about why he thought it was crucial for black Americans to travel to Africa. Burna Boy responded that it would help them understand their identities and how to function better.
The musician used the Chinese and Italian American races as examples to support his claim that these groups do not experience the same problems in the US as the African-American race does because they are aware of their roots and what they stand for.
"Why is it important that the diaspora come home?"

The interview, which drew the attention of other black Americans, including Tariq Nasheed, a social commentator who has previously gone head-to-head with Nigerian acts like as Ycee over an issue revolving around how African immigration was hurting black Americans in the United States, seems to have angered the racial group, as they took to social media to criticise Burna Boy.
On Sunday, March 19, 2023, Burna Boy clarified his initial remark on Instagram, stating that he did not mean to imply that African-Americans are not Americans or do not deserve what they desire from America, but rather that they have Africa, who loves them, and that the only way to rule the world is through the unification of all black people.
He wrote; โItโs sad to see that in 2023 there are still such black people who would prefer we stay divided and conquered. Maybe itโs my accent or something but I never said you are African and not American. I also did not say Africa is part of Heaven. You deserve all the Land and reparations you want from America and Iโm 100% in support of that.
All Iโve ever done is try to make you understand that you have Africa too that loves you and I believe coming together as brothers and sisters is the only way forward for US black people worldwide. You work against the progress of our people worldwide if your goal is to keep us divided.โ
