Following his criticism of Christians whose playlists include both Gospel music and Asake, Dunsin Oyekan has sparked controversy.

Such people, according to Oyekan during a sermon, are living in a confused situation because they are unable to communicate with God.

The Gospel Minister used the annual Spotify wrapped as an example and said that he was surprised at the confidence with which people shared their wrapped playlist, which included both gospel and secular tunes.

He continued by saying that such individuals are perplexed because of how they will able to differentiate from both God and the outside world.

In his words: “At the end of the year, when people were tagging some of us for their Spotify, Apple review for the year, and the people they listen to, you will see one secular musician. And then you will see Nathaniel Bassey. I’d say what is he doing there?

“Your confidence baffles me, how will you hear God, you are living in a confused state. Someone is telling you as it is with the world, another is telling you how it is with God, which one do you want to pick. Nathaniel Bassey does it for me but you just played brother Asake. And you are bold to share it online. Sometimes I look at their profile some of them will write unapologetically a child of God.”

However, the statement from Dunsin has brought about mixed reactions from Nigerians.

See some of the reactions below:

kcemenike: “If Christianity were only by the music we listen to, I would be in the category of Moses the Prophet. The level of sacrifice required, apart from losing your attraction to any music that is not psalms/hymns/spiritual songs ehn, is very high Make GOD dey help person abeg.”

reubensohomagbe: “Music have different genres, you can choose to listen to verities depending on your mood. I don’t understand his take. Cos if we apply this logic to movies, then it gets complicated. You shouldn’t be seeing mission impossible focus on mount zion movies.”

victoronyokere: “Should Christians not listen to Asake and the likes? I’m honestly asking.”

This was the same thinking that encouraged the “don’t watch TV” doctrine by Deeper Life and 100years after, Baba Kumuyi reverses the doctrine to allow members watch TV.

Let us calm down with this Christian walk with God.

This was addressed to believers !!!

“ But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”

There are messages for the multitude, there are messages for the 120; there are messages for the 70; there are messages for the 12; there are messages for the 3 and there are messages for Peter.

    Bitter truth

The fact is that if you must constantly hear God you must be careful of what goes into you, what you hear always is important.

Child of God know you are the atmosphere of God because you Carry his spirit. Not all songs are for you to digest. https://t.co/nOL4CQAlmQ

Few months ago, some Nigerian Christians on this app bashed Pastor Tobi, for singing and dancing to secular songs in his own church.

They said, the holy spirit can never go there. 💀

Today, they’re bashing this dude for speaking against listening to secular songs. Hyp0crites https://t.co/dTrbpGOUYx

Why can’t someone listen to secular music cos they love Jesus? But una fit wear secular clothes, watch secular movies, and use other worldly stuff. https://t.co/mhZq4pOrF0

    People like embarrassing themselves online…
What he said is not a “take”, so no need for y’all to be debating over it.

The people the message was directed to already understood https://t.co/GDqU2F9QQV

See Christians sewing thread to defend their listening to “Secular” music.

This is the reason why some people don’t take us seriously.

“Personally I feel” “I think sha that if”

But as a Follower of Christ; Christian
What does the Bible say about this? https://t.co/ZFFY6Eovqf
