Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is without a doubt one of Nigeria’s greatest universities.
The university, which was established in 1961, is renowned for both its outstanding academic accomplishments and its A-list alumni.
Many influential alumni from Great Ife, as the university is affectionately known, have made their mark in a variety of professions all around the nation.
OAU has also contributed to the music industry through its graduates who have gone to mark their mark in the bother the local and international music scene.

Fireboy DML
Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known by the stage name, Fireboy DML is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and entertainer.
He is signed to YBNL Nation, a record company formed by rapper Olamide. The young talented singer gained popularity in the industry with hits like “Jealous”, “What if I Say”, “King”, “Peru” amongst others.
Fireboy is one artist who is definitely on top of his game. He graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University in 2017 earning a bachelor’s degree in arts.
In 2019, he released his first studio album, Laughter, Tears, and Goosebumps.
Blaqbonez
Emeka Akumefule, better known by his stage name BlaqBonez, is a Nigerian rapper who is now signed to Chocolate City’s 100 Crowns imprint. He is well-known for fusing English and Yoruba into his music.
Songs by BlaqBonez have received praise from critics both domestically and abroad; the New York Times referred to him as one of the new guards of Nigerian music.
BlaqBonez earned a degree in engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University. His talent for music began at a young age when he defeated 3,000 other competitors in a rap competition in 2012.
Asake
Asake hit the limelight with the release of his viral single ‘Lady’ which received massive responses from several online media and top celebrities.
Olamide announced the signing of Asake in February 2022, about two years after the singer had pined for the deal.
Asake studied Theater & Performing arts at OAU, Ile-Ife, Osun state, where he had his degree, like Fireboy.
Cheque
Akanbi Bamidele Brett is a singer, songwriter, and rapper better known by his stage name, Cheque. In 2020, he released the well-received hit single Zoom.
Cheque is currently signed to Phyno’s penthauze label. He earned a chemical engineering degree from Obafemi Awolowo University.
In 2015, he released a five-track EP with fellow OAU alums Fireboy and Chinko Ekun. Cheque is a musician to keep an eye out for in the music industry since his songs are receiving significant attention in Nigeria.
Fave
Chidozie’s God’s Favor Uyochinyere is a musician and composer best known by her stage names Fave or Fave szn. As her moniker suggests, she has won everyone over and has stolen many hearts.
Fave first went viral for her freestyles which trickled down to her songs like “Beautifully”, “Riddim”, “My Man”.

Chinko Ekun
Oladipo Olamide Emmanuel professionally known as Chinko Ekun is a Nigerian rapper and songwriter.
Chinko graduated from OAU with a law degree. He became passionate about music at the age of 7.
His passion for pop and rap music developed throughout his first year of university.
In 2011, Chinko posted online videos of his freestyle to launch his musical career.
His debut official track, “Ekun,” was released by him in 2013. He appeared on Olamide’s Street OT music album in 2014.
Additionally, he performed a freestyle on Olamide Live In Concert (OLIC) 2014.
Chinko sings exclusively hip-hop music in English, Pidgin, and Yoruba.
