Despite being a third-world country, Nigeria has been on the A-class globally in terms of entertainment with emphasis on ‘music’.

Mp3bullet shares the basis of why 2022 is a new year for Nigerian artistes to dominate the music market globally.

Being a body bag of talents, Nigerian musicians have been doing well in the global music market, and it’s encouraging to know that foreigners adore the sounds that come from our shores.

Nigerian musicians didn’t start breaking into the global market today, it has been a thing since Nigeria got her independence. As a matter of fact, it just started getting the desired recognition.

In 1984, King Sunny Ade made Nigeria proud as he bagged his first Grammy Award, hitting the supposed biggest music jackpot; at this point, the likes of Fela, Orlando Julius, Haruna Ishola were already exporting their genres overseas. Nigerian sound was already a thing, both in Africa and abroad. The glorified part of it all was the diverse genres being originated and sung at this period.

More musicians were emerging and music entertainment was becoming a reckoning force amidst political and economic affairs.

Although, our selling point at this era didn’t get past concerts, CDs, top radios, a few on Billboard, and some international awards nominations.

Four decades down the road and counting, the Nigerian music industry has evolved so greatly, that our dominance into the global music world has been evidently solid.

All thanks to the living legends, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, Olamide, 2Baba, Dbanj, Tiwa Savage, Fireboy DML, and a host of others for making all of these possible.

What it means for Nigerian artistes to direct the music market globally in 2022

Artistes all over the world consider the Billboard charts as a sign of progress. The chart may not be indicative of an artiste’s success, but it does show the popularity of songs and albums in the US and others. The ranking of the charts is calculated.

All three statistics are utilized to build main song charts like the Hot 100 song chart, which are based on sales, streaming, or airplay. Streams and track sales, in addition to album sales, are included in the Billboard 200 album list. The chart also represents numerous musical styles from throughout the world.

Nigerians have cracked hard on this space – clarifying the impression that Afrobeats has been a leading force in the music world of late, and our tunes have directed the market globally.

To mention a few:2022 - A new year for Nigerian artistes to direct the music market globally

Wizkid’s Made In Lagos studio album recently became the longest run on Billboard’s World Music Albums chart, surpassing Fela’s own last year.2022 - A new year for Nigerian artistes to direct the music market globally

Ckay’s ‘Love Nwantiti’ was the most shazamed song in the world in October 2021. His project, ‘CKay The First’ peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 31, peaked at No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart, and No. 1 on the UK Indie Singles Chart.

Tiwa Savage, dominated the World Digital Song Sales chart on Billboard, with Somebody’s Son feat. Brandy hitting at number 11. No. 24 was Koroba, No. 13 was Ma Lo ft Wizkid, No. 16 was Keys To The Kingdom, No. 9 was Temptation ft Sam Smith. Celia reached number 15 on the World Albums chart with her 2020 album.

As the year proceeds, Nigerian artistes already have the tools necessary in making the world dance to their tunes.

More efforts have been put into international collaborations, blending of genres, and understanding the market structure as a whole.

Surely, Nigerian artistes have proven to be ready to dominate and direct 2022 globally with no setback!
