    Top 10 Nigerian artists who made a name for themselves with the amapiano sound.

    The sudden acceptance of the South African originated sound, “Amapiano” has got many artists across Africa hopping on it for a track and here are the top 10 Nigerian artists that emerge early with amapiano sound.

    Nigerian Artists are known for their ability to own any sound they jump on. This is termed the ‘Nigerian Effect’.

    It’s no surprise that Nigerian Artists are jumping on the trending Amapiano genre.

    Amapiano (nicknamed ‘The Yanos’) is a South African music genre that started gaining mainstream popularity in South Africa by late 2018.

    It features a strong baseline, piano/keyboard usage (hence the name), varying beat combinations which usually last anywhere between 1 and 2 minutes before any lyrics is heard.

    Skales – Inumidun

    Meaning happiness, “Inumidun” which means ‘I’m happy’ isn’t made on the usual amapiano beat but a fats paced one.

    In the song, Skales sings about the happiness he feels in the presence of his lover, he sings “Inumidun when you come around, when you turn around, and you pull it down”.

    He links up with DTAC for the production of this jam.

    Davido – I Got a Friend feat. Mayorkun, Sho Madjozi

    As Amapiano started gaining ground in Nigeria, Davido decided to join the train and released three Amapiano songs off his “A Better Time” album.

    These songs include “Heaven”, “I Have a Friend”, “La La”.

    However, for this list, the focus would be on “I Got a Friend” featuring Mayorkun and South African Artist, Sho Madjozi.

    Produced by Fresh VDM, Davido pays homage to his crew who he considers as friends. in this song, Sho Madjozi shines through as she gives a sterling rap performance.

    DJ Tunez – Require feat. Olamide 

    Olamide is a versatile rapper and “Require” proves that, he teams up with DJ Tunez for the groovy Amapiano song, he asks his loved Interest what she requires from him.

    DJ Kaywise – Highway feat. Phyno 

    DJ Kaywise and Phyno decided to fuse Amapiano and contemporary Igbo rap together to produce something magical.

    Masterkraft teamed up with Mr Flavour who knows how to get y’all on the dance floor to dish out this mid-tempo dance tune “Equipment”.

    Award-winning music producer, Masterkraft releases a brand new single titled “Equipment”. To deliver this Afro-pop record he employs the services of the Ijele, Flavour.
