American rapper Dwayne Carter Jr, better known as Lil Wayne, has revealed that he attempted suicide when he was 12 years old.
The singer revealed this while discussing mental health with Emmanuel Acho on Sunday’s episode of ‘Uncomfortable Conversations.’
“When you have no one to vent to, no one to get this out to, you can’t bring it to your friends at school because you’re still trying to be cool to them,” he said.
Wayne explained that he struggled for two years of his adolescence until his mother discovered that he had been skipping school.
He claimed that when he was 12 years old, he attempted suicide because he was afraid his mother would chastise him for rapping.

Wayne stated he dialled 911 and then went into his mother’s bedroom to retrieve her gun.
He first held the gun to his head, but when he became scared, he decided to shoot himself in the chest, aiming for his heart.
“I didn’t feel a thing,” he recalled.
The rapper’s suicide attempt altered his family’s perception of his musical ambitions.
