Vocal songstress, Lady Donli storms the music scene by surprise as she drops in a new body of work, Wild (EP).
While the singer’s 2019 debut album Enjoy Your Life found her delivering retro-inspired African songs with an overly joyful arch, Lady Donli’s latest EP W I L D is its moodier, bolder, multi-genre sister. Over six tracks, Lady Donli weaves poignant stories about love, life, becoming, and sex over euphoric soundscapes built on groovy R&B, moody Afropop, and electric reggae.
On “Searching,” an existential love song produced by GMK, Donli ponders both her own intentions and those of a lover.
“M.K.K,” on the other hand, is a club-friendly cut that lays bare her sensual desires, a theme that runs through till “Dragon Fruit Freestyle.” Yet the crux of the EP is the closing track “Set Tha Fire / Lova Gyal” (featuring Ragz Originale), which finds the singer at her most honest, unafraid to show all her paradoxes and stretch the boundaries of her artistry.
