Music is one of the important elements of an average church in Nigeria which is no surprise that most Nigerian Artists started from a Church Choir.
The Church Choir has helped many talented Nigerian artists hone their music capabilities either intentionally or unintentionally.
Some have benefitted from it more than others, going farther as to pursue their passion for music along the way.

Flavour

After the resident Pastor introduced him to a friend, Chris I. Ordor, the CEO of SoundCity Communications, Flavour was given a scholarship to study music.
Years later, he took up singing and went to release his first album, “N’abiana” in 2005.
Simi
Simi started singing at the tender age of 10 and later joined the church choir. This experience led her to start out as a Gospel singer when she released her debut album, “Ogaju” in 2008.
A few Years Later, Simi switched to secular music and got her breakthrough when she released “Tiff’ under X3M Label.
Kcee
Born Kingsley Chinweike Okonkwo, Kcee joined a Church Choir where met his former bandmate, Presh and later the two came together to form their own music group, KCPresh.

Terry G
Gabriel Oche Amanyi professionally known as Terry G was a popular Street Hop artist that once dominated the streets with his unique style of music and rebel personality.
Popularly referred to as ‘Akpako Master’, it would be a surprise to many that he started out as an Instrumental and vocalist in the Church.
After finding success in secular music, Terry G never looked back.
Waje
Waje discovered her musical talent in the church and joined the local choir. It was said she sang so good that the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa decided to sponsor her through secondary school.

Darey Art Alade
Darey was born to legendary Nigerian Jazz pioneer, Modupe Art Alade and he would tag along with him to his concerts. At 8, he joined the children’s choir and even led the school choir in school.
He was also a member of the choir of the Cathedral Church of Christ and the National Troupe of Nigeria Choir.
Iyanya
Iyanya‘s grandfather was a clergyman where Iyanya sang in his church’s choir and was the choirmaster for the children’s choir at age 5.
Banky W
Banky W was born in the US, at age five his family moved back to Nigeria. He discovered his talent for singing and joined the church choir at a tender age.
Wande Coal
Before joining Mo’hits records, Wande Coal started singing during his teenage years in his Church but got his break in the Entertainment industry as a dancer.
