Amapiano is a subgenre of House Music that started in South Africa. It is a fusion of deep house, kwaito, and jazz.
Amapiano took over the music scene in South Africa as of 2019 pushing all other genres to the background. Then it slowly trickled into Nigeria.
2020 saw Nigerian artists jumping on the trend and fusing it with Afrobeat and creating their hit songs from it.
This resulted in an advanced form of the genre which was thanks to the “Nigerian Effect” on it.

Mayorkun – Of Lagos
2020 has been a very good year for DMW artist, Mayorkun. He dropped the hit song, “Geng” at the beginning of the year which saw popular and upcoming artists doing covers to the song.
During the lockdown, Mayorkun then dropped “Of Lagos”, the song which bears the amapiano elements consists of a very catchy hook. The hook became popular on social media app like Twitter, Triller, Tiktoks even before its official release.
DJ Neptune ft Joeboy, Mr Eazi, Focalistic- Nobody (Amapiano)
“Nobody” by DJ Neptune featuring Joeboy and Mr Eazi was popular in Nigeria and beyond. DJ Neptune decided to spice things up by making an Amapiano remix featuring South African artist, Focalistic.
This version still manages to retain the vibes people fell in love with in the original.

Kiddomant ft Cassper Nyovest- Ewallet
Nigerian Music Producer, Kiddomant enlists South African rapper, Cassper Nyovest for the vibe filled “EWallet”.
The song sees Kiddomant singing the verses while Cassper handles a verse and the chrous.
Masterkraft ft Flavour – Equipment
Whenever music producer, Masterkraft and artist, Flavour collaborates, it is sure to be a banger. On “Equipment”, Flavour does his magic on an amapiano like beat with catchy Igbo lyrics.

Shizzi ft Wale, Davido – Won Le ba
Shizzi enlists longtime friend, Davido, and American rapper of Nigerian Descent, Wale on the amapiano-like song, “Won Le Ba”.
The song is bit fast paced with is as a result of the fusion of Afrobeat.
Rema – Woman
Rema is unique in his own right, that why him jumping on an Amapiano beat would always birth something different.
This is what happens with his hit single, “Woman”. The song is produced by Ozedikus and Burssbrain.
“Woman” is a declaration of love to the female gender. Rema declares his flame to all women, telling them that he loves them madly regardless of their shapes and colors.

Tiwa Savage ft DJ Ganyani & De Mogul – Dangerous Love (Amapiano version)
“Dangerous Love” was the first single off Tiwa Savage’s “Celia” album. The song was originally had an R’n’B fused with Afrobeat feel.
Then she partners with South African Music Producers DJ Ganyani and De Mogul for an amapiano version.
This beginning of this remix features new lyrics and the song in general has a vibrant and bouncy feel to it.
She also released another version featuring De Mthuda titled Born In Soweto Remix which also contains element of Amapiano but its has a more lighter feel.
