Zlatan Ibile’s career started with Zanku, the song he made the leg work dance that started trending, last year.
And since, he’s built his brand all the way up, becoming one of the most sought after street artists, around here. Except maybe Olamide and his good friend, Naira Marley, there’s hardly anyone who holds a candle to Zlatan Ibile, when it comes to performance on the streets.
Also, he has grabbed a Headies nomination in the “Next Rated” category, where he’d be contending with Victor AD, Lyta, Joeboy, Fireboy DML, and Rema. He’s got the most fans and since it’s a voting category, he’d probably win the award and become 2019’s Next Rated Artist.
But even if he wins, isn’t his career already hanging on a balance? At least many fans of Tacha would say it is, and we’re not talking of just a few thousands of people, it’s a clan that could easily be millions of people, supporting the girl against all odds. Since Big Brother Naija is the most popular show in the country, at the moment.
The story? Tacha, a very popular contestant at the BB Naija reality TV show, got kicked out of the show about a week ago after she had a fight with another housemate, Mercy. After that, she started trending online, Twitter, Instagram, everywhere, with Twitter checking in about 275k tweets about Tacha within thirty minutes. So, well, Zlatan, the man who seizes the moment, decided it was a good time to cash in on this.
Meanwhile, there is an unconfirmed rumor that Tacha has body odour, and Zlatan Ibile made that the subject of a new song, he apparently just made. He then recorded a snippet and posted on Instagram, asking for a number of comments before releasing the track. That unpopular idea quickly became what people were talking about. Would this be the golden ticket for him? Or could this be his eternal doom?

For one, Zlatan is good at making hits with stuff that’s going on. “Bolanle”, “English Teacher” and a certain “Yeye Boyfriend” freestyle are pointers to that. And there is a possibility he’s going g to score a big hit if he releases the track. In fact, even if the reception is bad, that is if many people give it a thumbs down, it’s still going to trend.
But will it affect Zlatan in the long run? Most likely not. Artists make mistakes, all kinds, including singing about EFCC and then going to jail (yes, I’m talking of Naira Marley). Last December, Lil Kesh did a controversial song, “Logo Benz” with Olamide. It was mostly bad reviews, everywhere. It just happens to be, if the mistake is a song they release, there is always a comeback from that, because they’re obviously still gonna’ release more songs.
No Tacha fan is voting Zlatan at this Headies, though. So don’t be surprised when Rema, Victor AD or any of the nominees wins.
Zlatan Ibile had this one coming!
