‘Where I need to be’: Xavi Simons reveals why he snubbed Chelsea to join Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur’s new signing, Xavi Simons has shed light on why he opted to join the North London side despite strong interest from Chelsea.
The 22-year-old playmaker was on the radar of the Blues after making it clear to RB Leipzig that he wanted a move, but Spurs swooped in and completed the deal before the transfer window shut.
Simons, who is expected to inject creativity into Ange Postecoglou’s squad following their lacklustre showing against Bournemouth, admitted that his decision was shaped largely by his discussions with manager Thomas Frank.
“I’ve had many conversations, but once I spoke with the manager, it was clear this was the place I needed to be. It gave me the same feeling I had at PSV with Ruud van Nistelrooy, or at Leipzig when I first arrived. That connection with the club and the coach is everything,” Simons said.
He also highlighted the role of Dutch teammate Micky van de Ven in helping him settle quickly, saying the warm welcome contributed to his decision.
Frank, meanwhile, was full of praise for the Netherlands international, hailing him as potentially one of Tottenham’s best signings in years.
“He can change a game in an instant — go past players, create chances, produce something out of nothing. That’s the kind of extra quality we were missing, and that’s what he brings,” the Spurs boss said.
With his creativity and flair, Simons is already being tipped to play a pivotal role in Tottenham’s ambitions this season.
