Wizkid and Davido are about to make our 2020 a more enjoyable year with both artists dropping their albums soon.
Wizkid recently dropped a bombshell about his forthcoming album, “Made In Lagos” as reported by Mp3bullet.ng and it’s causing chaos because apparently the superstar intends on releasing the album in the month of July and the month happens to be the same month Davido would be releasing “A Better Time”.
It’s safe to say July might be the month when we get a reprieve from all the drama that has been occurring lately.
While This article won’t focus on the comparison between the albums (You can’t compare what hasn’t been released), the main focus would be about what to expect from both albums and their impact on the Nigerian Music scene.
Since the entrance of Wizkid and Davido into the music industry, fans haven’t stopped comparing both artists from Songs, Personality, charms, and even their personal lives aren’t spared.
The fact the two albums would be dropping in the same month is enough for a world war three to start.
Wizkid’s new album is called “Made In Lagos“, a name that gives homage to his Lagos Roots while Davido’s album is called “A Better Time” a name that draws inspiration from his last album, “A Good Time“.
LAST PROJECT
Wizkid’s last project was an EP titled “Soundman” that housed seven tracks that received assistance from Chronixx, Blaq Jerzee, Kel P, London, and DJ Tunez.
The EP contained songs like “Jam”, “Blow”, “Cover Me”, “Mine”, “Electric”, “Ease of Mind”, “Thankful”.
He released it in 2019 as a compensation for not dropping “Made In Lagos”.
Davido released “A Good Time” officially in 2019, however, some songs from the album were released earlier before the official release.
The album housed seventeen songs which include hit songs like “If”, “Fall”, “Blow my Mind”, “Risky”, “Assurance”, “Sweet in the Middle” amongst others.
NEW PROJECT
Wizkid on his Instagram story thanked some artists and producers for their contribution to his forthcoming album which gives us an idea of who he is featuring on the album.
H.E.R, Damian Marley, Ella Mai, Tems, Starboy Terri, Skepta, Burna Boy are being featured on the album and this is exciting for a lot of reasons.
Firstly, Wizkid has done several collaborations with Skepta but the notable one is “Energy (Stay Far Way) which received positive reviews. The song is a smooth sailing song that tells the story of a guy who just wants a one night stand with no string attached.
Then there is the Wizkid and Burna Boy collaboration which if is anything promises to be exciting. The two artists just clinched BET Awards in different categories.
A Wizkid and Tems collaboration is one people have been dying to hear ever since he made the announcement on Twitter.
Then when you add Grammy Award-winning singer, H.E.R, Damian Marley, and beautiful Ella Mai, the album promises to be a knockout.
On the other hand, there isn’t much information on Davido’s “A Good Time” but it doesn’t take away the fact that news of Davido X Nicki Minaj’s collaboration on the album is enough to get people excited.
Then there’s the unexpected collaboration between him and Wizkid’s bestie, Tiwa Savage. His artist, Mayorkun is also being featured on two tracks in the album and word on the street tells us it’s fire packed.
Not to forget, it is highly possible the collaboration between Davido and late American rapper, Pop Smoke would be on the album. Though Davido had two months ago announced that the song would be released on June 12 but nothing was released when the time came.
EXPECTATIONS
There are a lot of expectations for both albums. For WIzkid, Made in Lagos has been something his fans have been waiting for more a year.
Therefore hopes are high especially with the line up for the album, this is promising to be good.
Davido’s “A Good Time” isn’t officially a year old and dropping anything another album might seem far fetched but Davido has always been one to do well even under pressure.
The albums from Wizkid and Davido might be the best thing to happen since the coronavirus took away our social lives.
However, what might really make our day could be a collaboration from Wizkid and Davido but one can only dream and pray for the day the two powerhouses of Afrobeat finally make it come true.
