Tyla shines as host and winner at the 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, winning Favorite Global Music Star

South Africa’s Tyla delivered a record-breaking moment at the 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, where she not only hosted the iconic show but also emerged as the Favourite Global Music Star, proudly representing Africa.
The energetic awards ceremony, held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, was filled with dynamic performances, celebrity cameos, and Nickelodeon’s trademark slime surprises.
Tyla, 23, kicked off the event with a lively summer-themed dance party alongside DJ Benny Blanco, complete with a surprise appearance from Smurfette that had the young audience cheering in delight.
This marked Tyla’s first time hosting a major international awards show, a milestone she described as emotional and unbelievable. Reflecting on her journey, she revealed that she once auditioned for Nickelodeon as a child. “It really feels like a full circle moment,” she shared with a laugh in a pre-show interview.

While she hoped to escape the show with “just a drizzle” of slime, Tyla instead joined the list of stars who were thoroughly soaked during the festivities.
The night grew even more memorable when Tyla was announced as the winner of the Favourite Global Music Star (Africa), triumphing over nominees from six other global regions.
During her acceptance speech, the Water hitmaker expressed her gratitude:
“This means the world to me, to represent Africa on a global stage and be recognised by all you amazing kids out there… wow. Thank you for believing in me and dancing with me. Africa to the world!”

Among the evening’s other big winners was Sabrina Carpenter, who swept three major categories: Favourite Song (Taste), Female Breakout Artist, and Favourite Album (Short ‘n Sweet).
Tyla’s dynamic stage presence and natural flair as host earned rave reviews from fans and critics alike, marking a groundbreaking moment not only in her career but for African artists on the global entertainment scene.
