Tottenham hire Thomas Frank! Spurs confirm appointment of Danish boss after reaching agreement with Brentford following sacking of Europa League winner Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham Hotspur have announced the appointment of Danish tactician Thomas Frank as their new head coach. This follows the departure of Ange Postecoglou, who led the club to Europa League success before stepping down.
Frank joins Spurs after a highly regarded seven-year stint at Brentford, where he transformed the club’s fortunes and earned praise for his tactical innovation and player development. The 50-year-old has signed a contract running until 2028 and will bring his trusted backroom staff to North London.
Accompanying Frank are his long-time assistants from Brentford — Justin Cochrane, Chris Haslam, and Joe Newton — as well as set-piece specialist Andreas Georgson, who most recently worked with Manchester United.
Tottenham confirmed the appointment through an official statement:
“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Thomas Frank as our new Head Coach on a contract that runs until 2028. Thomas has extensive experience in English football having joined Brentford in 2016 – since becoming one of the longest-serving current managers in the Premier League… In Thomas we are appointing one of the most progressive and innovative head coaches within the game. He has a proven track record in player and squad development and we look forward to him leading the team as we prepare for the season ahead.”

Frank made history in 2020 when he led Brentford to the Premier League for the first time in 74 years. Since then, he has not only helped them retain their top-flight status but also improve their performances each season, despite operating with a limited budget.
His next chapter presents a far more complex task at Tottenham, a club with lofty ambitions and a fan base increasingly at odds with the club’s hierarchy. Frank inherits a dressing room still reeling from Postecoglou’s unexpected exit, with reports suggesting several players remain loyal to the Australian.
Among his first challenges will be stabilising the squad and resolving potential unrest. There’s also speculation that Frank could target Brentford stars like Bryan Mbeumo, who has been strongly linked with a move away from West London this summer.
While the Dane has proven himself capable of punching above his weight at a smaller club, succeeding at Spurs, where several managers before him have stumbled, will demand even more resilience and ingenuity.
Fans will be hoping Frank can bring the same tactical clarity and developmental magic that turned Brentford into one of the Premier League’s most respected sides. Whether he can do so under the ever-watchful eye of chairman Daniel Levy remains to be seen.
