A whole chunk of the year 2019 is gone. And as we step into the eighth month of the year, the heat of summer, it’s not without love from our guys in the music industry. Yeah, we look forward to more party music, like never before.
August is still young, anyway and most of the songs trending now are probably songs released in the course of last month. That’s not to say the guys ain’t already dropping new music, though. But of all those long lists of songs released in July, which are Top 10 Naija Songs The ones still trending? You can say, the best.
Guess we’ll just find out!
Davido – Blow My Mind ft. Chris Brown
Davido‘s charm worked again. This time the Billionaire son of the popular businessman, Adeleke, pulled his biggest strings and napped a collaboration with one of the hottest artists on the planet, Chris Brown.
“Blow My Mind” felt all like Davido, and it’s cool to know David’s won’t be compromised because of Brown, and it was all awesome. And there is this flashy visual for it online that got 1.5m views on YouTube, in less than 24 hours of release.
And the records are not even finished yet.
Beyonce x Wizkid – Brown Skin Girl (ft. Ivy Carter, Saint JHN)
Beyonce knows how to make the place shake, give her that. Surprise albums are her thing, and surprising us with a host of collaborations with top African arts? That was really a good surprise because we didn’t see that coming, really.
“Brown Skin Girl” became a hit instantly, Wizkid was on it and his performance on it is probably his best ever. And really, it’s not every day an artist gets to have Queen Bey herself do a duet with him (more like back up his vocals.)
Thanks to this, we didn’t have a dull July.
Phyno – The Bag
Phyno’s style of music may never change, again. But his style of releasing music occasionally, just to stay in the conversation, even when he doesn’t need to, would never change.
“The Bag” is probably a reminder that Phyno still got a game. It may also mean an album may hit us soon. Both are good news, you know.
D’banj – Mo Cover Eh ft. Slimcase
Talk of people who will never retire. They talk of retiring, doing real business, leaving for music for the small boys, but at the end of the day, “mo cover eh.”
D’banj isn’t planning on making “King Don Come” his last project. I didn’t think he was, so he’s decided to do something more.
While “Mo Cover Eh” isn’t such a good one, or is Slimcase still a big shot, with D’banj, it all makes sense. And that’s that.
Burna Boy – Ja Ra E
Oh, and then some Burna. Sure, Beyonce couldn’t forget him, so he had him do something for the Lion King gift album, for her.
“Ja Ra E”, which is one of the most loved songs off the album, also stands as one of the best of Burna Boy‘s, this year. Even as his “African Giant” album is making marks!
Fireboy – You
Does Fireboy DML let a month go by without him dropping a new piece? Honestly? These days, no. I don’t see why not.
“You” is like a gift, more like a two-edged sword. He could say a few things on there to his fan, and also make a hit. Doesn’t disappoint.
Lyta – Monalisa
Lyta’s promising career might have started at YBNL, but he’s been quite very impressive since he left. Maybe things are finally about to go his way.
“Monalisa” can count as his third hit, after “Time” and “Self Made” and don’t even tryna say it’s too early to say it’s a mega-hit. Because Davido is going to be on the Remix, which will arrive shortly.
DJ Spinall – Dis Love ft. Tiwa Savage, Wizkid
Wizkid and Tiwa Savage got chemistry, a newborn baby knows that for sure. So, what we need in our life is more collaborations from the two superstars.
DJ Spinall figured. And got us one in the form of “Dis Love.” Quite good, isn’t it?
Burna Boy – Pull Up
“Pull Up” was released just as he was about to put out his album, and riding on the hype he’s garnered from the Beyonce collabo, the song smashed.
A good vibe that is very very cool, from a loved guy like Burna, is kind of very hard to resist. It just had to be a big hit!
Zlatan Ibile – Shotan ft. Tiwa Savage
It was only a matter of time before it happened anyway. He’s been doing things with all the big guys in the industry, promoting his Zanku movement. Tiwa wasn’t fair, she isn’t always fair.
While she wasn’t doing something for Beyonce or Wizkid, she did jump on “Shotan” with Zlatan, and they hit it off. It’s as good as it gets, you know.
