Thomas Tuchel blasts the referee and the pitch after Bayern Munich’s Champions League exit following Manchester City draw.
After Bayern Munich’s Wednesday Champions League tie with Manchester City, Thomas Tuchel criticized Clement Turpin and the pitch at Allianz Arena.
The English team advanced to the Champions League semifinals after Pep Guardiola’s team eked out a 1-1 draw in a hostile Allianz Arena to defeat Bayern Munich 4-1 overall.
Tuchel, who is renowned for being a lively presence on the sidelines, overreached on Wednesday night and was ultimately dismissed by match official Turpin after receiving a second booking in the second half.
After the game, Tuchel did not spare the rod on Turpin and hit out at the match official: “Two things weren’t at the level today: the pitch and the referee. I would give him a 6 (worst possible rating), from his first to his last decision, I didn’t even see the foul in the penalty he gave us.”
Turpin brandished five yellow cards in the first half and another straight red to Dayot Upamecano for a last-man challenge on Erling Haaland, but an offside call from VAR saved the French defender from going down the tunnel. Moreover, the start of the game was delayed after the referee found his earpiece to be malfunctioning.
Bayern Munich is focused solely on the Bundesliga, which they lead by two points, after being eliminated from the DFB Pokal and the Champions League. They will go to Mainz for their match on Saturday in an effort to secure the three points.
