History Set to be Written in the Game Between Costa Rica and Germany, Read Below
On Thursday, December 1st, 2022, the Group E match between Germany and Costa Rica is set to make history in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Stephanie Frappart, a French referee, will become history’s first female official at a World Cup for men.
She will be joined by her two female assistant referees, Karen Diaz Medina of Mexico and Neuza Back of Brazil. An all-female refereeing panel will be in charge of a men’s game for the first time in World Cup history.
When she assumed the spotlight during the UEFA Super League match between Chelsea and Liverpool in 2019, she became the first woman in the world to officiate a men’s game.

As the fourth official for the match between Mexico and Poland, the 38-year-old referee also made history by being the first female official at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Frappart has a history of setting records. In 2020, while officiating Juventus’ 3-0 victory against Dynamo Kyiv, she became the first woman to officiate a men’s UEFA Champions League game.
However, Flick will be hoping his team doesn’t set any unwelcome records, even though Frappart is set to make a positive impression on the world stage.
Germany is now last in Group E, which means that if they do not win, they will be eliminated at the group stage of the World Cup for the second time in a row, a feat that has never been accomplished in the history of the country.
