Nigerian rapper and social activist Folarin Falana, widely known as Falz, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign over the escalating security crisis in the country.
Falz’s demand follows a string of violent incidents, including the abduction of 25 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State; the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba in Borno State; and the terrorist attack on a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) branch in Kwara State.
The rapper made the statement on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), where he drew attention to a 2014 tweet by Tinubu.
At the time, Tinubu, then an opposition figure, had urged former President Goodluck Jonathan to resign for failing to tackle insecurity.
In a pointed reference to the president’s past words, Falz quoted the exact message Tinubu once directed at Jonathan:
“You have consistently shown your unwillingness to protect the lives and property of our people despite pretending to care in the past. RESIGN NOW!”
Falz’s post has sparked wide-ranging reactions online as conversations around Nigeria’s worsening insecurity continue to intensify.

The tweet in question dates back to November 2014 seven months after the Chibok schoolgirls were kidnapped. In it, Tinubu wrote: “Why should any part of this country be under occupation? In any civilized country, Jonathan should resign.”
That wasn’t the first time he voiced such criticism. Earlier that year, during a speech in Ilorin, Tinubu had openly accused the Jonathan administration of dishonesty and incompetence in handling the Boko Haram crisis. He said:
“I saw the sea of displaced persons caused by the Boko Haram insurgents and the lies coming from Jonathan’s administration. They have exhibited failure, lack of capacity, vision, creativity; the lie of yesterday is what they repeat today.”
He also questioned how insurgents could seize Nigerian territory while the President remained Commander-in-Chief, insisting:
“If you control the armed forces… why should any part of this country be under occupation? In any civilized country, Jonathan should resign.”
Falz’s recent criticism lands at a time when national anger is boiling over renewed attacks. The killings and abductions in Kebbi—including the death of a vice principal—and the assault on a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) branch in Kwara State have deepened fears about growing insecurity under the current administration.
The rapper’s comments also line up with the international spotlight now falling on Nigeria’s security struggles. Just a day earlier, American rapper Nicki Minaj addressed the United Nations alongside U.S. Ambassador Michael Waltz, urging urgent action to protect Nigerian Christians from persecution.
She emphasized peace, unity, and freedom of worship, while also acknowledging former U.S. President Donald Trump for drawing attention to the crisis.
