    Serious protest in South Africa against Burna Boy’s planned visit to SA for a concert.

    Burna Boy

    There has been a serious protest against Nigerian music star; Burna boy in South Africa

    This protest is led by South African artists under the group name of; “Tshwane Collective“. They are protesting over his invitation to perform at the “Africans Unite concert”, which is to be held in South Africa.

    These artists wrote a petition to the minister of arts and culture, kicking against the inclusion of Burna Boy in two concerts set to take place on the 23rd  and 24th of November.

    “Africans Unite concert” was initiated as a remedy to stop the inhumane xenophobic attack against other Africans especially Nigerians in South Africa.

    It is organized by y Play Network Africa, in partnership with Phambili Media SA and supported by  South Africa’s department of arts and culture.

    The concert features Burna Boy alongside other, artistes such as Kwesta  and Jidenna

    Africans Unite concert is to be held at Hillcrest Quarry, Cape Town on 23 November and at Sun Arena, Time Square in Pretoria, on the 24th.

    Should we go down memory lane for a bit, we will recall that Burna Boy got into an episode with south African rapper; AKA. He threatened AKA and asked him to beef up his security, before giving him the middle finger.

    This was after he urged black foreigners living in SA to defend and protect themselves against xenophobic attackers.

    “Mp3bullet.ng” however reports that Burna Boy later on, deleted this tweet.

    Burna Boy further when on to swear never to set foot on South Africa until the government fixes the problem.

    His exact words;

    I promise to never set foot in SA again until the government wakes the f*ck up “

    It seems theses Tshwane Collective took him by his word as they question the organizers of theses concerts angrily.

    In their petition to SA’s minister of arts and culture, they wrote;

    “Whoever may have deemed that the country needs a PR exercise of this nature would have done so largely as a result of the callous, misleading and unwarranted incitement by this very artist

    . Not only did he spread falsehoods through his extensive platform, he literally incited violence and hate.

    He further promised to inflict his own violence on locals before giving your government an ultimatum which you seem to have received and succumbed to”,

    They claimed local artists were not included, but Burna boy who allegedly promoted violence was invited.

    The African giant who was however unaware of these blazing protests took to his twitter on the 9th of November to announce the concert.

    He wrote

    “I really hope we can all keep contributing in our own way to make the world a better and safer place for each other. Africans unite, it’s bigger than all of us,”

    After this petition, the department of arts, however, distanced themselves from the program.

    They claimed they were not associated with the concert had had not funded it in any way.

    Making this announcement public, their spokesperson; Asanda Magaqa said;

    “The Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture wishes to dispel the untrue information currently being spread on social media, that it is funding the Africans Unite Concert featuring the artist known as Burna Boy.

    It is unfortunate that the department’s logo was erroneously used on the poster advertising the event.

    The department wishes to reiterate that it has not allocated or granted any funding to the event in question and any reports to the contrary are entirely false.”

    This public statement of theirs has surely stared up a series of confusions and may further put the show to a hold.

    We, however, hope the protest ends soon and everything is sorted amicably.

    As they say, United we stand, Divided we fall.

    The last thing Africa needs now, is conflict, especially between the two countries with the largest economies.
