There’s a difference between freedom of data and speech – Paul Okoye
Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy, has weighed in on the recent controversy surrounding Speed Darlington’s arrest.
On October 9, 2024, Rudeboy took to his Instagram stories to discuss the nuances of freedom of speech and the responsible use of social media.
He remarked, “Everything is fun and games until it gets serious… Then people will claim you’re acting like an oppressor just because you have money. There’s a big difference between freedom of speech and simply having access to the internet.”
In another post, he added, “Control the internet; don’t let it control you.”

Rudeboy’s comments came after reports of Speed Darlington’s arrest for allegedly defaming fellow musician Burna Boy.
Speed Darlington had previously posted a video in which he claimed Burna Boy had ties to American rapper Diddy, who was recently charged with sex trafficking and other serious crimes.
On October 7, 2024, Speed Darlington’s Instagram page shared an SOS, stating that he had been missing for three days, sparking concern among his followers.
Later, Speed’s mother made a public plea, asking Burna Boy for mercy, believing her son’s disappearance was linked to the accusations. This situation caused both Speed Darlington and Burna Boy to trend online, igniting discussions about the importance of careful use of social platforms.
