Rio Ferdinand names Arsenal’s ‘most valuable player’ this season.
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has revealed Arsenal’s ‘most important player’ this season. He hailed Gabriel Jesus as Arsenal’s “most essential player” despite the player’s current goalless streak.
Jesus, who cost Arsenal £50 million in the summer after leaving Premier League rivals Manchester City, has had a fantastic start to his Arsenal career.
Jesus, though, has struggled to score lately as he has gone seven games without a goal for the Gunners.
Despite this, former Manchester United and England defender Ferdinand still sees Jesus as the most important member of Mikel Arteta’s squad.

After defeating Nottingham Forest 5-0 at the Emirates on Sunday, Arsenal had their best-ever start to a league season and reclaimed first place in the Premier League.
Speaking on the Vibe with Five YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: ‘Do you know what? I listened to the manager [Mikel Arteta] the other day before this game [against Forest].
‘He basically said: “we need our strikers scoring if we’re going to be successful… we need them to score”. That’s a fact.
‘Listen, I still believe he’s Arsenal’s most important player by the way. Without him, Arsenal are not the same team. But he just needs to add goals now. You can’t criticise anything else he’s doing.’
