Reminisce reveals his reasons for not wanting his children to pursue music careers.
In a candid podcast discussion, Nigerian rapper Reminisce shared his views on the challenges of the music industry and why he hopes his children will prioritize education over a career in music.
Despite his success, Reminisce expressed concerns about the industry’s unpredictability and compared it to professional football, where only a handful reach the top.
Reminisce emphasized that while talent is essential, it’s not always enough to guarantee a successful career in music. He highlighted the importance of a solid educational background as a safety net, encouraging his children to see music as a potential secondary pursuit, rather than a primary goal.
“I don’t want my children to do music,” Reminisce said. “Not because of some traditional African belief, but from my own experiences. You can be the most talented and still end up with nothing, much like football. I know people who are in their 40s and still chasing a break that may never come.”
He elaborated on the tough realities of the industry, noting that while music has worked for him, it’s a path with a low success rate. “For every superstar, there are thousands who don’t make it. Education gives you something to fall back on if things don’t work out,” he explained.
Ultimately, Reminisce encouraged his children to focus on education as a solid foundation for the future. He remains supportive if they wish to explore music, but he advises against seeing it as their primary career choice, given the difficulties he’s witnessed in the industry.
