Chelsea hit by huge blow with Reece James set to undergo surgery on hamstring injury and set to miss up to four months.
Chelsea has received another setback with the news that Reece James is set to be sidelined for approximately four months due to a hamstring injury that requires surgery.
The Chelsea captain sustained the injury during a 2-0 defeat to Everton earlier in the month. Given his history of hamstring issues, James has opted for surgery, which will take place in Finland, as reported by the Daily Mail. The severity of the problem is expected to keep him out of action for three to four months.
This setback follows James’s previous two-month absence at the beginning of the season due to a hamstring injury. Despite returning to play for a month, he experienced a recurrence of the problem. Although James took time to decide on surgery, there is hope that the procedure will address the issue comprehensively.
Several high-profile footballers, such as Paris Saint-Germain winger Ousmane Dembele, have undergone hamstring surgery in Finland, where specialists Sakari Orvara and Lassi Lempainen are well-regarded.
Recovering in time for England’s friendlies against Brazil and Belgium in March seems unlikely for James. However, there is potential for him to be considered for Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad.
In the absence of James, Mauricio Pochettino is expected to deploy Axel Disasi as the replacement in Chelsea’s upcoming games.
