PSG star Sergio Ramos has expressed his disappointment at missing out on this year’s Qatar World Cup, with Spain boss Luis Enrique opting not to take the 36-year-old.

The veteran defender has attributed his omission to a difficult 21/22 season in which he played just 12 times for the French champions owing to a slew of injuries, including a calf problem that kept him out for over four months.

Ramos has not appeared for Spain’s national squad since March 2021. During the qualification stage for the future tournament in Qatar, he came on as a substitute in their 3-1 win over Kosovo.

The Former Real Marid defender has played 180 times for Spain, making him the country’s most capped player. He is also tied with Iker Casillas for the most World Cup appearances (17).

Ramos has reacted to the news that he will not be attending his fifth World Cup after being left out of the squad by Luis Enrique, the PSG defender shared his thoughts on his social media page. He said:

“I can say that this season I feel like myself again and am back to enjoying football, playing for a great club in a great city like Paris. The World Cup? Of course, it was one of those big dreams I wanted to realize but. It would have been my fifth, unfortunately I’ll have to watch it at home. It’s tough, but the sun will still rise in the morning.”

“I wouldn’t change anything about myself. Not my mentality. Not my passion. Not my commitment, effort, dedication. 24 hours thinking about football. This is how I feel and I wanted to share it with you all.

Thank you for the support ????. There are plenty more challenges and goals ahead. See you soon, Wishing you the best. ¡Vamos, España!”
