    Paris Saint-Germain have announced former Barcelona and Spain manager Luis Enrique has become their new head coach.

    Enrique has signed a two-year deal at Parc des Princes to succeed Christophe Galtier, whose departure was also announced on Wednesday, in his first position since departing La Roja in December following a disastrous 2022 World Cup.

    Enrique said: “I’m delighted to be joining Paris in order to enjoy a new experience. It’s so exciting to meet new people, to live in this city, to learn a new language and, above all, to manage PSG.”

    It is his first club position since departing Barça in 2017, where he won two La Liga titles and the Champions League among other honours.

    Before Ange Postecoglou was chosen, the 53-year-old and Tottenham had already discussed the position of manager. When it became apparent that Galtier would no longer be in command in the capital of France, PSG intensified their pursuit in June.

    Galtier was recently put into police custody together with his son John Valovic due to allegations of prejudice while serving as manager of Nice.

    Enrique will face a lot of uncertainty during his first several months as PSG manager. The departure of Lionel Messi has been officially announced, and according to reports, Bernardo Silva of Manchester City, who is also attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League, is their top transfer target to replace the World Cup winner.

    Following their time together at the city of Monaco, Silva is thought to have a tight relationship with PSG advisor Luis Campos.
