Portugal confirms the 26-men squad for the World Cup: Ronaldo & Pepe lead.
Portugal’s official 26-man squad for Qatar has been confirmed and released, and they will be aiming for a successful campaign this time.
Coach Fernando Santos announced his squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup on the 10th of November 2022.
In anticipation of the 2022 tournament in Qatar, Fernando Santos has given his team newfound hope, and Portugal is one of the favourites thanks to their World Cup history.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s final opportunity to win the prestigious cup is now. Portugal has one of the strongest World Cup squads this year because of their outstanding depth. For Ronaldo, this will be one of the best chances to guide his team to infamy.
Portugal has long been seen of as a poor squad because of inefficiency and a dearth of top-tier performers, but thanks to their developing abilities and numerous individuals proving their worth on the pitch, that perception is changing. This time, the 2016 Euro Champions have been dubbed the “golden generation,” and manager Fernando Santos will be hoping his team performs admirably in the World Cup.
Portugal will be making their eighth World Cup appearance, and they have yet to win the highest prize in football. Their best campaign was in 2006 when they reached the semi-finals before being ousted by France.
Although they could not qualify directly for the World Cup after finishing second, they had to play in playoff matches to guarantee a World Cup berth, which they eventually achieved. Ronaldo, 37, has been out of form lately but will seek to resurrect his form ahead of the World Cup.
Portugal, Uruguay, Ghana, and South Korea are all seeds in Group H. Portugal will undoubtedly win the group despite the fact that it is not an easy one because of the quality of their squad. If not, it will be considered a huge waste for the country.
