Nigerian street-pop artist Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, widely known as Portable, has sparked fresh controversy after calling out Nigerian pastors for what he described as their silence in the face of increasing terrorist attacks across the country.

The outspoken singer reacted to the recent violence in Jos, where Christians were reportedly attacked during Palm Sunday. He questioned the role of religious leaders, accusing them of prioritising their own safety while their congregations remain vulnerable.
Portable criticised pastors for allegedly moving around in bulletproof vehicles while failing to publicly confront or protest against the ongoing violence.
According to him, the lack of strong response sends the wrong message at a time when many Nigerians expect leadership and advocacy from religious figures.
He went further to compare the reactions of different religious groups, suggesting that leaders in other faiths would not remain silent under similar circumstances.
“Why are Nigerian pastors not fighting for Christians? They use bulletproof cars yet their followers are dying. Why can’t pastors lead protest to the Aso rock? You can’t harm a Muslim and there won’t be chaos. If you kill a traditionalist, there will be crisis. But if you kill a Christian, the pastor will look away and being enjoying in his car,” he stated.
His comments have since stirred conversations online, with many debating the responsibilities of religious leaders in times of national insecurity.
