“It Happened”- Pheelz fires back at critics who slammed him for claiming he was broke after leaving YBNL.
Nigerian producer turned-singer, Pheelz has addressed the backlash he received after he made a tweet saying that he was broke and was unable to afford bottle water in 2021.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Pheelz revealed his 2022 hit song, “Finesse” featuring BNXN Buju turned his life around.
Pheelz claims that his life broke apart in 2021 after releasing his debut EP, ‘Hear Me Out,’ in February of that year.
Pheelz, who also had a successful song with Davido called Electricity, launched his career and gained a new life as his song “Finesse” with Buju ‘BNXN‘ became an unexpected global smash.
In his words: “It was a moment of being alone with myself, I have a vlog where I’d record myself and my thoughts every day. Two months ago, I checked that vlog and I saw myself, and it was just cr@zy because I had [a] beard. “I didn’t have enough money to buy bottled water; I would have friends send me food, lost everything except the roof over my head.”
However many fans were not buying his story, claiming that the producer is one of the top five producers in Nigeria was lying.
However, in a recent interview with F&S Uncensored, Pheelz opened up on the backlash and explained that he wasn’t lying about being broke.
According to him, people who dragged him didn’t read the full interview to get the context and backstory of how he went broke.
Pheelz revealed that before dropping “Finesse‘, he had dropped an Ep, ‘Hear Me Out” and he spent money on the production, Promotion, marketing and visuals.
He recounts how he would visit a certain gym in Lagos and train without paying, however, the owners weren’t too concerned as he was a popular figure.
He also lamented that Olamide and YBNL were dragged unfairly due to the interview and that he never made any claims of Baddo not paying him.
Pheelz revealed that he can currently afford a bottled Water company and might even venture into that line of business for the fun of it.
He stated that while post Covid pandemic era was a crazy moment for him, he has learned to embrace his down and up moments.
