Pep Guardiola’s incredible record after 400 games at Man City.
As he defeated Thomas Tuchel in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, Pep Guardiola celebrated his 400th game in charge of Manchester City.
The opening leg of City’s match versus Bayern was outstanding, and Guardiola oversaw a performance that showcased the best aspects of the Sky Blues.
The Citizens are in a terrific position to win their first European title under the Spanish coach thanks to the aggregate victory; the only major title that has eluded Guardiola since he took the reins in 2016.
Pep’s magic and a tiny amount of money have transformed City into nothing less than a domestic powerhouse.
His City teams are among the best we’ve ever seen in England, and after their 2016–17 season of transition, they pretty much own the Premier League.
Here’s what Guardiola’s record at the Etihad looks like after 400 games in charge.

The top table shows how dominant City has been at home under Guardiola. With 322 games under his management in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup, the Spaniard has won 245 of them. A remarkable 75.2% of games won are like that.
Although City has advanced to the final just once while Guardiola has been in charge, they have won more than 64% of their matches in the Champions League. His teams frequently win the group stage before losing against weaker competition in the postseason. In his first four seasons as coach, they were unable to get past the quarterfinals.
The one stain on Guardiola’s stellar record at the Etihad is City’s inability to advance in Europe. The club has won many awards in recent years as a result of their success under the former manager of Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
Under Guardiola, the Citizens have won the Premier League four times, and they have a chance to win it five times in 2022–2023. Between 2018 through 2022, they also won the Carabao Cup four times in a row. Strangely, City has only won the FA Cup once (in 2018–19), and they have lost in the semifinals four times in a row.
By the time the competition’s semifinals arrive, Guardiola typically has other, more important obligations.

Guardiola has ruled Spain for a long time, shattering several managerial records along the way.
In just 204 games, Guardiola became the Premier League’s fastest manager to 150 victories. Under the Spaniard’s guidance, City also scored 500 goals in a record-breaking 207 games, averaging 2.4 goals per game! Pep also set the standard for managing 200 goals in 81 games, 300 goals in 120 games, and 400 goals in 162 games.
In 2021, City broke the record for most Premier League victories in a calendar year (33) set by Bob Paisley’s Liverpool in 1982 with an outrageous 36 victories. After City’s 1-0 victory over Chelsea in September of that year, Guardiola had amassed 221 victories, making him the club’s all-time winningest manager.
City became the first side in Premier League history to reach 100 points during Pep’s second season in charge (2017–18), and their 106 goals are also the most ever scored in the league. The City team that won the league by the most points (19) also did so.
The Spaniard also leads the way in four notable categories among managers who have managed 50+ games in the Premier League:
- Best points-per-game record – 2.35
- Highest winning percentage – 74
- Most goals per game – 2.45
- Fewest goals conceded per game – 0.80
