Niniola is back in her element with the release of Tika, a high-energy Afro-house record accompanied by a colourful new music video.
The new single signals a fresh phase for the Nigerian singer, arriving after her more personal Without You EP. While that project allowed her to explore a softer and more introspective side of her artistry, Tika brings her back to the energetic Afro-house sound that has become closely associated with her name.
Built for movement, the fast-paced record leans heavily on driving percussion and Niniola’s lively vocals.
It is the kind of sound that has helped establish her as one of the prominent figures in Nigeria’s Afro-house movement, with earlier successes such as Maradona playing a major role in that journey. The song has also earned gold and platinum certifications in South Africa.
Niniola, born Niniola Apata, first gained public attention through Project Fame West Africa in 2013 before making her official single debut with Ibadi the following year.
Since then, she has steadily carved out a distinct space within Nigeria’s music scene by combining African rhythms, house influences and powerful vocals.
After exploring a more vulnerable side of her music on Without You, Tika feels like a confident return to familiar territory.
The release also arrives during a busy New Music Friday, sharing the spotlight with releases from artists including Rema, Tiakola and Wizkid’s son Champz.
