American rap superstar Nicki Minaj has stepped into the ongoing conversation surrounding Nigerian entertainers, urging fans across the world to show more empathy and restraint in how they criticize artists from the country.

In recent weeks, several Nigerian stars have been dragged heavily online some accused of arrogance, others of being insensitive to the nation’s worsening security crisis.

Burna Boy, for example, stirred anger after joking that he wanted “only rich fans,” while Yemi Alade faced heat for her comments about potential U.S. interference in Nigeria’s security issues.

A handful of other celebrities also came under fire for sharing unrelated posts during a period of national mourning, following the deadly terrorist attack on a church in Kwara State and the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi.

Amid the growing backlash, Minaj took to social media to call for understanding, urging her followers to avoid quick judgment. In a thoughtful message posted on X, she wrote:

“My darlings, let’s utilize wisdom & compassion as it relates to our Nigerian artists. There are very logical reasons for most things when we look not to judge, but to comprehend.

“That goes for every country & their artists. Let’s lift them & continue to use wisdom.”

Her appeal comes not long after she received widespread praise from Nigerians for using her platform at a United Nations gathering in New York to highlight alleged jihadist attacks on Christians in Nigeria. At that event, she stressed the importance of freedom of worship and called for global action against terrorism.

Nicki’s latest message is already drawing attention a reminder that while criticism is sometimes necessary, understanding the context behind public figures’ actions can often lead to healthier conversations.
