Popular Nigerian singer; Naira Marley’s court trial for alleged cybercrime and fraudulent practices adjourned till February 2020.
We can recall that early this year, the “Mafo“ singer got on the wrong side of the law for alleged internet and credit card fraud as reported by us at “Mp3bullet.ng”.
Although he got locked up, he was granted bail after a few weeks. Trials were held after his bail but were continuously adjourned up until yesterday.
At yesterday’s hearing, the first prosecution witness; Dalhatu Buhari was cross-examined by the defendant’s counsel, Olalekan Ojo, SAN,
When asked if any expert in cybersecurity could access a computer and do what he likes on it in relation to the credit card details that were found on Marley‘s s computer; he said it was not possible
His words;
“This is because there are various aspects of cybersecurity and not all the tools used in cybersecurity are accessible to all the various aspects.”
Dalhatu has further asked if he recorded the date of the registration of the administration of the account, and he said he couldn’t.
According to him;
“The Windows Operating system that was used for the analysis cannot provide such details. This is because it is exclusive to the Apple Operating System and can only be accessed by the company”
The witness further revealed that only recovered card details were found on the defendant’s system.
He, however, added that if a proper investigation was carried out, it would be ascertained if the cards were really used for fraudulent practices.
On that note, the case was adjourned for proper investigations to be carried out.
Justice I. Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos adjourned the hearing till February 27, 2020
Perhaps this case is taking so much time. However, a proper investigation has to be done.
We, however, hope Naira Marley is not found wanting at the end of the day.
