Mason Greenwood discloses his footballing idol & best quality as ex-Man Utd forward continues to impress in France with Champions League-chasing Marseille

Marseille forward Mason Greenwood has named Brazilian football icon Ronaldo as his childhood idol while also shedding light on his personal interests and footballing strengths as he continues to make headlines in Ligue 1.
Now 23, Greenwood is enjoying a career resurgence in France after parting ways with Manchester United in the summer of 2024. Since joining Marseille, the talented winger has hit top form, netting an impressive 18 goals in the 2024/25 season — a feat that has put him back on the radar of top European clubs.
Although Greenwood has one senior appearance for England, he is currently in the process of switching his international allegiance to Jamaica. The Reggae Boyz are reportedly excited by his flair, pace, and ability to finish with either foot — a combination that has made him one of Ligue 1’s standout performers.
In an interview with Marseille’s official media team, Greenwood revealed: “Brazilian Ronaldo” was the player he looked up to while growing up. Speaking on his own game, he highlighted his close control and technical skill, saying: “Dribbling” is his greatest asset.

Off the pitch, Greenwood gave fans a peek into his personal life. He admitted that he regularly calls his father after matches, highlighting the strong bond they share. He also listed athletics as his favourite sport outside football, and Olympic sprint legend Usain Bolt as his biggest sporting hero.
When it comes to lifestyle choices, Greenwood said he enjoys pizza as his go-to meal and would choose Greece as his preferred holiday destination.
With transfer speculation swirling once again around his name, Greenwood’s steady rise at Marseille — paired with his technical brilliance and calm persona — suggests his best days may still be ahead.
