Tanzanian artist, Marioo has been trending with “Beer Tamu”, a good way to disturb the charts.
I don’t know who needs to hear this but people these days love to vibe to the music that they listen to, maybe it’s because of life’s busyness or all the stresses we face in our day to day lives but after a long day of hustling, we need to let loose and dance, and that’s why Omary aka Marioo as we all know him has decided to soothe the hearts of his Tanzanian fans by releasing a banger called ‘bia tamu’ (translated to English as beer is Sweet).
Marioo was formally known for his sad songs, songs that were full of his pain and anguish as someone who has been mistreated in relationships, his famous songs like ‘Inatosha‘ and ‘Unanionea‘ are testament to this, as days went by it seemed like he stopped caring about relationship dramas and he decided to sing songs about other issues.
‘Chibonge‘ is a very good song, which he did with Abba, this song put him on different charts and he got so many deals because of it, the song was all about body acceptance as he uplifted fat women with his body-positive lyrics. I thought they would have given him an award with that song lol!!
I would say though, Marioo is among the few Tanzanian artists whose 2020/2021 has been an amazing year, he has transformed his artistry in a way that his song has brought the different tastes to his listeners’ ears.
Being flexible in the music industry is not something that every musician can do, that’s why it’s a death bed for some to switch their genre and sounds. For Marioo though his switch to Amapiano has been a successful one.
We saw how ‘Mama Amina‘ which he did with Sho Madjozi revolutionized Tanzanian music and got even children nodding their heads to the beat even though they weren’t getting the words of the songs right.
In short, the song was played everywhere, that even those who weren’t fans of his songs found themselves vibing to ‘Mama Amina‘.
Marioo didn’t stop there, after making us lay down our stresses with ‘Mama Amina’, he has decided that we now should drink beer to his melody ‘Beer Tamu’ with his most repeated line in the song being ‘Asikwambie mtu tu tu bia tamu’ which can be translated to ‘let no one tell you anything else, beer is sweet’.
This trending song was released in late September as audio and its video came out in October. This song has not only given us a melody to drink to, but it has also given us street vocabularies, like the ones that were given to us by songs like ‘Dume Suruali’ by Mwana FA and ‘Nipe Tano’ by Daz Nundaz. Marioo has given as a national anthem, the trending news now is that Bia Tamu!

If you love drinking and having a good time, you will agree with me that once ‘Bia Tamu‘ is played you will feel as if your throat is dancing to the tune, this song has even prompted those who have never had a beer before to try it out.
I think with this song Marioo has placed himself in a good position to get an endorsement from beverage companies especially those that sell beer.
To date, the song has more than 1.5 million views in 13 days since its release, this shows how much Tanzanians have embraced his new musical sound and direction.
Marioo is no longer the old one who sang ‘Dar Kugumu‘ (meaning Dar is tough), this new Marioo seems to be like the one who Dar has accepted as their own, like a prophet who was not accepted in his hometown but embraced by people in Dar.
