Manchester City announce £29.4m signing of Vitor Reis from Palmeiras

Manchester City have officially announced the signing of 19-year-old Palmeiras defender Vitor Reis. The highly sought-after Brazilian talent had drawn interest from several top European clubs, but City acted decisively early in the transfer window to secure his signature for a reported £29.4 million.
Reis joins the reigning Premier League champions as part of their defensive reinforcement plan, following the £33.6 million acquisition of Uzbekistan international Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens.

Expressing his excitement about the move, Reis said:
“I’m excited to join Manchester City, one of the biggest clubs in the world. Everyone has seen the amazing achievements in recent seasons, and I want to make my mark as we seek more trophies.
“Working with Pep Guardiola is something every young player dreams of, and I know he can help me develop into the best player I can be. City also have a lot of experience with Brazilian footballers, and joining players like Ederson and Savinho will be a big help for me.”

City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, praised the new signing, calling him one of the brightest young defensive prospects:
“Vitor Reis is one of the most promising young defenders in the world, and we’re delighted to bring him here.
“In his short time in senior football in Brazil, he has shown immense potential and the ability to go far in the game. Working with Pep and our coaching staff will help him reach his full potential.
“Vitor is excellent on the ball, outstanding in the air, and possesses all the qualities needed to become one of the best defenders. He is very young, but his talent is so exceptional that we believe he can make an impact both now and in the future.”
Reis’s arrival further strengthens City’s squad as they aim to maintain their dominance in both domestic and European competitions.
