Nigerian rapper, M.I Abaga has reacted to the ongoing drama between D’banj and Seyitan, his rape accuser.
M.I Abaga speaking on the fact that Seyitan was arrested by the police for the rape accusations she leveled against D’banj, wrote a lengthy post concerning the issue.
He said that society will not improve if we tear down the systemic methods by which women who speak out against rape are silenced.
He added that one can’t speak out against rape and still be silent when rape victims are being persecuted for speaking out against their attackers.
Adding,
Some days I am ashamed to be a man because of how much we have failed our sisters, mothers, friends and daughters.. today is one of those days.. and I know if I do not speak out today I will be complicit in a system that tells women.. “shut up and don’t say anything”
Society will not improve if we do not tear down the systemic methods by which women and girls who accuse people of violating them are silenced. There can be no sacred cows on this issue..
