Madrid recruited Modric from Tottenham in 2012, and the playmaker has won almost 20 titles at the Santiago Bernabeu, including five Champions League triumphs. Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia had targeted Modric, but he chose to stay in the Spanish capital instead.
The midfield positions in Real Madrid will be fiercely contested next season. Modric and Kroos have already indicated their intention to continue at the club, and they will be joined by Jude Bellingham. Carlo Ancelotti can also call on Aurélien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, and Fede Valverde.
Modric has reacted to the announcement with a brief post on social media. “Home Sweet Home,” he wrote on Twitter.
