Liverpool Agree £30 Million Deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s player as Alexander-Arnold Replacement

Liverpool have reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Dutch international right-back Jeremie Frimpong for £30 million, in a move to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is set to leave the club following the expiry of his contract.
The 24-year-old defender, known for his attacking prowess and versatility, was a key target for Reds head coach Arne Slot after Alexander-Arnold’s departure was confirmed, with the latter expected to join Real Madrid.
Frimpong, who has spent recent seasons mainly as a wing-back under outgoing Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso, has impressed with his forward runs and goal-scoring ability — netting 28 goals in the last three seasons. His release clause reportedly made the transfer process straightforward.

Liverpool currently have only one recognized right-back, 21-year-old Conor Bradley, who has gained experience with 55 appearances since his debut in 2021. Other players like Joe Gomez, Jarell Quansah, and Curtis Jones have filled in but are not natural options for the role.
Frimpong is now expected to undergo a medical before the deal is finalized. The signing is part of a wider summer recruitment plan for Liverpool, with the club also targeting reinforcements in central defense, midfield, and attack to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
