Liverpool announce Darwin Nunez will take the iconic No. 9 shirt
Darwin Nunez has chosen to take over the No. 9 shirt left vacant by Roberto Firmino for the next Premier League season, according to Liverpool.
Nunez will change from No. 27 to No. 9 for the start of the upcoming Premier League season, according to Liverpool. The forward has taken over the number that was left vacant following Firmino’s free transfer to Saudi club Al-Ahli. Liverpool have also stated that the attacker will refund fans who have already purchased his No. 27 jersey.
“Darwin Nunez will wear the No.9 jersey for Liverpool for 2023-24,” read a club statement. “The forward has opted to take the number that was left vacant after the departure of Roberto Firmino upon the expiry of his contract earlier this summer. Fans who have already purchased new 2023-24 home and away jerseys printed with the name ‘Darwin’ and the number ‘27’ will be personally reimbursed by Nunez with a like-for-like exchange for a ‘Darwin 9’ shirt.”
Nunez will be the latest player to don Liverpool’s historic No. 9 shirt. Club legends like Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler, and Fernando Torres have previously designed the legendary jersey.
Liverpool’s 2023-24 Premier League season is set to begin on August 13 against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
