Following the captain’s announcement that he would leave Barcelona at the end of the season, Lionel Messi has sent a message to Sergio Busquets.
The two players played together for well over ten years in Barcelona’s first squad, taking home every trophy available for the Catalan powerhouse.
On Wednesday, Sergio Busquets announced that he has decided to leave Barcelona at the end of the season, once his current contract expires. It brings to an end an incredible 18-year association with the club.
One of the finest players to have progressed through the ranks at Barcelona is Busquets, and Lionel Messi has used the occasion to honour his friend and former teammate.
Messi expressed his gratitude for Busquets’ efforts at Barcelona in a post on Instagram.
He wrote: “On the pitch always with the 5 but in reality, as a player and as a person, you are a 10, Busi.
I wish you the best in your new stage and in everything, both you and your family.
Thank you for the on and off the pitch, there were so many moments we spent together, many good and some also complicated. They will remain forever!”

Busquets‘ contract extension at Barcelona was said to be contingent on Messi returning to the team this summer. However, it appears that the former has made the decision to move forward without waiting to see if that happens.
Messi may still sign with Barcelona this summer, but if he does, Busquets won’t be his teammate.
