Ghanaian highlife and afrobeats singer-songwriter Gregory Bortey Newman, better known by his stage name King Promise, has explained the relationship and connection he shared with Nigerian Afrofusion superstar Wizkid.
The overwhelming majority of Ghanaians responded distastefully to the sudden attraction between King Promise and Wizkid.
Many people assumed that King Promise wanted to be as successful as Starboy, so he hung out with him to keep an eye on his behaviour.
Others countered that the singer follows Wizkid about like a member of his crew, and they weren’t happy with that because they consider King Promise to be one of Ghana’s biggest talents.

In an interview with Deloris Frimpong Manso on the Delay Show, King Promise stated that he has always seen Big Wiz as a brother and also the biggest musician in Africa in present times.
He claimed that allegations linking him to some of his promoters were untrue because he independently negotiates his own arrangements with global businesses and brands, not with Wizkid’s assistance.
However, he mentioned that his affiliations with Big Wiz are also influenced by the fact that they are signed to the same booking agent.
