Joe Budden Blasts South African Star Tyla for Rejecting Usher.
American media personality Joe Budden recently voiced strong opinions about South African singer Tyla during an episode of his popular podcast.
Budden expressed his dislike for Tyla’s personality, calling her “annoying” and claiming she doesn’t understand American culture.
“I don’t think I like Tyla’s personality,” Budden said. “She comes off as entitled or giving off an uppity African vibe. It’s very off-putting, almost as if she expects people to bow down to her.”
Budden also took issue with Tyla’s interaction with Usher at a recent concert, where video footage went viral showing Tyla dodging Usher’s signature dance move. Many praised Tyla for her actions, seeing it as a way to maintain her boundaries. However, Budden labeled it as unprofessional.
“When Usher tried to do his showmanship dance with her in front of 20,000 people, she ducked him,” Budden added, criticizing her performance etiquette.
The remarks sparked backlash from South Africans and fans, who defended the 22-year-old artist. On social media, many stood by Tyla, asserting that she doesn’t need to conform to American norms.
“She’s African, why should she act American? Let her be herself,” an Instagram user commented, while South African actress Pearl Thusi weighed in, saying, “Maybe she didn’t want her dad to see that. This is so weird!”
